Day 7: Swimming Pool

Dry creek bed - Stagecoach Trails RV resort
Mile 66 - 77
11 miles + 4 miles off-trail

Today l woke up on a very windy morning on a dry gravel creek bed in a side valley of Chariot Canyon. Cloud caps covered the nearby hills.

Colorful plants are in abundance around the trail as it descends towards Rodriquez fire tank.

Here are my Czech trail co-hikers as we filter the water before a very long waterless section. If staying on trail, next reliable water source is 33 miles away. But there is also an RV park if we turn 4 miles off trail after 9 miles from here. And it has a swimming pool!

The trail descends into a deep desert valley with palms, yuccas and many cactuses. Finally it reaches a road with the the RV park sign. The road goes through a tiny village called Shelter Valley until it reaches the campground in the middle of the desert.
There is water, showers, washing machines, good food, friendly hikers, and an ice-cold swimming pool!

Very good swim to stretch and regenerate stiff hiker legs :-)

  1. I bet that pool felt great after a day on the trail. How does your companion like that hiking skirt? I'm curious how well it protects her from the brush on the trail. Stay safe out there!
